WILDLIFE PROJECT

Friends of Goostrey Nature too.

At present Friends of Goostrey Station are trying to make the area a more wildlife friendly site. Bird and bat boxes were carefully erected earlier in the year, so we  are delighted that Pipistrelle bats have been identified using a bat detector and nesting blue-tits have been spotted. The various species and habitats are being recorded using a Geographical Information System with software that creates maps.  In the future, plant species that encourage wildlife will be introduced.

In June, the cubs held a meeting at the station and helped to make three hotels for bugs and bees.

GIS Surveys

FOGS are in the process of creating a wildlife friendly site. Bird boxes, Bat boxes and Bee / Bug hotels and Flowers and fauna will be introduced to the whole site wherever possible. To monitor the various Habitats and species, FOGS will use GIS (Geographical Information System) to map where species are observed on the site.

The software will be able to create maps and publish them to inform the community about the habitat with the station grounds.

It is hoped that with careful planting and positioning of nest / Bat boxes and Bee / Bug hotels the station will become a haven for wildlife and plants.
