In November 2023, three Friends of Silverdale Station on the Furness Line travelled by train (of course) to Goostrey seeking advice. Their members already tidy the platforms and plant flowerbeds, but the group is keen to restore the Victorian waiting room for community use.
The visitors were amazed at how much FoGS have achieved - from displays of primary school art and railway memorabilia to mapping changes in biodiversity and the rejuvenation of the station building as Goostrey Art Studio. In the years before the Covid pandemic, at the time the station environment was improving, passenger numbers increased significantly.
The visitors left with plenty of advice and high hopes for the future of their group. Recently their chair reported that, despite some setbacks, they are making slow progress. Now they are looking at ways of engaging local scouts as FoGS has done.
More recently, FoGS has provided advice about issues such as tenancy agreements to LNWRS and Friends of Alderley Edge station.

Friends group hard at work on Friday 27 May 2022!
They managed to put in a good morning's work at the station.
The bunting for the Platinum Jubilee went up around our waiting room, the planters were restocked and the borders refreshed. We even managed to cut back some of the overgrowth on the car parking area.
The repainting of the interior of the waiting room has progressed and are hoping to host one or two small events during the summer, including inviting the Parish Council to visit to discuss the building's future.
