ISO Distance mapping
Craig Sidebotham, FoGS Chair has been looking at Iso Distance mapping.
It is hoped when completed that the maps will show a series of buffers, 5, 10, 20 minutes walking from an individual station. Within those boundaries would be points of interest. This could be, for example, bus stops, Library, Pubs, Restaurants etc.
Each town or village has its own individual points of interest (POI). The buffers would show people how long it would take to walk from a station to a particular point they may wish to visit, from that particular station.
We hope that this mapping might encourage people to visit places by train as it shows how long it would take to walk there from that particular station. (Note if you zoom into the map other POI are viewable as well)
Craig has also managed to get the maps into a web based application, which would allow people to switch Points of interest (POI), on and off as per an individuals particular interest.
FoGS is very excited by this, and most grateful for Craig’s hard work. More information will be posted here when available.
